“Sarajevo heart of Europe” with the Piazza Vittorio Orchestra
Italy chose the multi-ethnic notes of the Piazza Vittorio Orchestra to recall the outbreak of the First World War in the international week “Sarajevo heart of Europe” devoted to the Centenary.
The concert will take place on 21st June – the opening day of commemorations – at the National Theatre of Sarajevo, with a repertoire rich in the traditional pieces of different Countries, as well as a homage inspired to the songs of the Great War.
The Piazza Vittorio Orchestra, made up of eighteen musicians from ten Countries speaking nine different languages is a unique reality since it succeeds in encompassing the different cultural backgrounds in a single and enchanting music mix.
The performances of the Orchestra continuously shift from one language to another expressing common feelings and originating a single language, a new dialect of this strange “Malarazza” (“Evil Race”- after a song by Domenico Modugno) presented on stage.
Surprisingly, repertoires that are geographically and culturally so distant are then very close when it comes to feelings and in their music construction.
This also includes a wonderful meeting with Ginevra Di Marco, the solo voice that will accompany the performance of the orchestra. For many years Ginevra has been recovering the Italian and dialectal repertoires, ranging from folk songs to political and immigration pieces, starting from the beginning of the 20th century until our present times.
