Riccardo Muti conducts Verdi from the memorial in Redipuglia

Requiem Mass in the memory of the victims of all wars
On 6th July Maestro Riccardo will conduct the Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi, in remembrance of the victims of all wars, from the most important Italian war memorial where 100,000 soldiers were buried.
On this occasion, the Youth Orchestra Luigi Cherubini will also include the musicians from the European Union Youth Orchestra, from the Chorus of Friuli Venezia Giulia, joined by the artists of the Chorus of the Verdi Theatre in Trieste and the Music Academia of Zagreb, Ljubljana and Budapest.
Furthermore, the musicians from 7 prestigious orchestras from 7 nations involved in the First World War will also be involved (Wiener Philharmoniker, Berliner Philharmoniker, Orchestre National de France, Philharmonia Orchestra of London, Orchestra from the Marijnski Theatre of St. Petersburg, Orchestre Symphonique du Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Chicago Shymphony Orchestra).
The solo voices will include some of the most prestigious international performers, such as the soprano Tatiana Serjan, the mezzosoprano Daniela Barcellona, the tenor Francesco Meli, and the bass Ildar Abdrazakov.
This is the first international event able to attract world attention on the recovery of the memory that Italy is organising for the Centenary of the Great War. The concert was proposed by the Ravenna Festival in the framework of the event “Le vie dell’Amicizia”, celebrating every year peace and dialogue of peoples with a music programme performed in highly significant places such as Sarajevo in 2009 or Nairobi in 2011.
The concert is possible thanks to the collaboration between the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Government, the Task Force of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for the Anniversaries of National Interest, and the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Tourism.
The Italian President Giorgio Napolitano will attend the event, as well as the Heads of State of the other Countries involved. The concert will be broadcasted live on Rai Uno in Italia and in Europe, in agreement with the other television networks.
