The special technical-scientific Committee of the Ministry for cultural heritage and tourism
The Technical-scientific committee for the historical heritage of the First World War operates within the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Tourism, and was established under art. 4, paragraph 2, of Law 78/01 ruling on the provisions about the “Protection of the historical heritage of the First World War”.
Since 2001 the Committee has been defining the criteria for the allocation of financing destined to the identification, cataloguing, maintenance, restoration, management and enhancement of the documents and the remains of the Great War. Furthermore, the Committee promotes studies and researches on the heritage of the First World War also through the protection and enhancement of public archives.
From 2001 to 2012 the Committee identified 63 projects deserving financial support, and paid out nearly 1,166,285.00 €. Most of interventions concern the regions that were the theatre of the conflict, and are mainly focused in the Veneto Region. The project “Ecomuseo Grande Guerra delle Prealpi Vicentine – Comunità Montana Speciale Reggenza dei Sette Comuni” represents an exemplary model of intervention through the contribution of public and private authorities, and the development of different methods and instruments of intervention according to the different items recovered.
