The organisation
By means of a Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers dated 6th June 2013, the Interministerial Committee for the Centenary of the First World War was set up in order to coordinate the planning, the preparation and the organisation of events linked to commemorations.
Another Decree by the President of the Council of Ministers confirmed – through a series of amendments and supplements – the Historical-scientific Committee for the anniversaries of national interest.
The planning and operational support to the activities relating to the implementation of events was entrusted to the Task Force for the Anniversaries of National Interest.
Furthermore, by means of a Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers dated 18th April 2013, the Steering Committee and the Scientific Committee for the “Great War Memorial” were established in order to provide the guidelines and the historical and historiographical support – respectively – for the suitable development of the Memorial: a museum widespread throughout the entire Italian territory able to recover the memory of the places and of the families struck by the first world conflict through recovery activities as well as new narrative pathways.
Finally, the Technical-Scientific Committee for the Historical Heritage of the First World War was set-up in the framework of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Tourism, and established in compliance with art. 4, paragraph 2 of Law no. 78/01 outlining the provisions on the “Protection of the historical heritage of the First World War”.
In the perspective of a rationalisation of administrative actions and with a view to the optimisation of public spending, a series of agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed – presently without any financial burden whatsoever – to share purposes, objectives and projects with Public Archives, Institutions, Foundations, and prestigious partners.
